Originally from Lansing, Joseph F. Lavey II P.C. attended Michigan State undergrad and graduated from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 1982. After working in private practice, he moved to the UP to work for what is now called Northern Michigan Legal Services.
He worked there for 5 years, then advanced to the Michigan Protection and Advocacy Services, where he represented those with physical and mental disabilities. After a short stint clerking for the United States District Court, he opened his private practice.
